| BlackSheep | link to website |
![]() |
BLACKSHEEP, Naka Shimwino, was born 20 May 1981. He is a talented, lyrically-gifted, up and coming kwaito/hip-hop artist. His love for hip-hop music came when he was 12 years old when he was exposed to gangster rap, listening to rappers like Snoop Dogg, 2PAC, West Side Connection, Eazy E, Bone Thugz, etc.; artists who would later influence his own music. His favorite artist growing up was undoubtedly 2PAC, who had a lot to say, which is exactly what he likes about someone. Back in school, when they would have talent shows, he was too shy to go on stage, but his friends and classmates knew that he was very good at writing lyrics, as is demonstrated in his lyrically rich music. He was introduced to Qonja, with whom he did his first ever song on his album, the song is titled “Plaak”, meaning “in the mood”. The song featured Gazza, who is considered to be the best kwaito artist to come out of Namibia. He was then invited by Gazza to do a few tours with him, although he was still signed with LOWKEY productions at the time. Before he knew it, he was signed to the Gazza’s production label, GMP. Things then took off positively for Blacksheep, as his music career started to take shape, winning over a lot of fans with his lyrical, metaphorical and seemingly controversial style of rapping. He then teamed up with Gazza on a song called “Sixxa” which enjoyed a lot of airplay on Namibian radio stations. Blacksheep released his highly-anticipated, debut album, titled “The Blacksheep Show” in October 2010. His slick and unabashed charm offstage has led him to the forefront of the Namibian kwaito scene, despite him only having released very recently. Quote :''I’m not in this industry to take spots, I’m here to reshuffle the decks, and to level the playing field. I feel there are a lot of talented guys out there, but they just don’t understand that hip-hop kwaito is not just about boasting about who you can stab and taking someone’s belongings, and growing up in the kassie (ghetto), and having a deep voice. Try to make sense, but at the same time, let the people dance.'' |

Recent Album Infgo: TJERIPO has unleashed his Gospel- powered torch telling the world and sundry that, “you are destined for greatness,” on his latest album ‘Arise and Shine’ released at the end of last year through Triple Seven Studios. In this case, even the cover design by Inna Goroh of Inchiology Studios (inchiology.com) deserves a mention for its classy quality look. Similarly, the music arranged, produced, mixed and mastered by Impact Arrahath Mahuure under the executive production of Tjeripo Tjihoreko himself, is excellent and praiseworthy. Ironic since it is definitely praise music and the strong Christian message transcends even the language barrier with many songs in different Namibian languages. Seventeen tracks means that the album has something substantial about it and don’t be surprised when the title track Arise and Shine at number eleven re-invigorates this offering’s appeal. Artists featured along with Tjeripo on the songs that he composed and wrote himself were Rusovero Tjihoreko, Yerii, Joel Kawame, Master T., the Conqourer’s Voice and Lisa M on track fourteen ‘Jesus Unomasa,’ and Refilwe Sekgoma. Fellow musicians who contributed their talent include Rodrigue, whose guitar work on the album is memorable, as well as Brain Kanambunga, Tangee Tjijorokisa, Levite, Master T, Annatjies and Arnold Hengua and Mrs Kini. Singers mentioned in the album’s thank you’s were Irene Shaningua, Juanecia Kandinda, Esme Katjikuru, Tjaritje Hewicke, Refilwe Sekgoma, Antonio Sandos, Hendrik Stephans Vries, Carol Otto, Henry Engelbrecht and Meliza Isaaks and the use of all those voices pays off throughout ‘Arise and Shine’. The album is available from local music retailers such as Universal Sounds in Post Street Mall Windhoek where it costs just over N$100 a copy. |

Moving to Namibia in 2006,Maxwell Chipepera a.k.a M-Dwayne unearthed his dormant career and a very strong desire in him as a musician. In 2009 he started to collaborate with artists like Slammer and Acid at One Mike's, a Hip-Hop show. "I met with the CEO and a producer of Infinity Records at free style show called RUK who was very impressed with my work and sign me to his records label," says M-Dwayne. It wasn't long before M-Dwayne started to work with RUK through Infinity Records releasing lots of hit tracks that made onto the radio charts like Fresh FM and Base FM. At a time, the songs included Listen to the Radio featuring Eddie; 'Kick Push featuring ACES and I got it featured D-jay'. "People use to know me through collaboration and I wasn't having any song for my self. I made my name through those songs, I collaborated with Namibian artists and my voice was very astonishing to pull the audiences," says M-Dwayne. "Lastly I would love to advice Namibian artists to improve on their music videos and give them a little bit of qualities and taste. We are far behind in this, comparing to other countries. And to upcoming artist believe in your self, no body can stop you as long as you believe in your self, keep supporting local music for that you have much more to gain," M-Dwayne concludes. |

...Editors Notes...
...what has their progress been over the years and how much work and effort did they commit to, inorder to be where they are now ? The music industry is brutal and the important thing is to stay on top of things, not forget where you came from, who has helped you and that everything should be about the music and the people who connect to it.Never forget your fans ! You can rise to fame and glory quickly, but you can fall down again twice as fast. It's up to you and you only as you shape the road of your success...
...it's always great to find something unique out there in the world. A talent like no other. People don't always want copies of something or someone, that is already highlighted from all sides. During the design phase of this website, it got clear that only a handful of artists actually chose a unique artist name whereas others were not very creative. Also there is a huge lack of information about artists especially on biographies - If fans want to know more details on their stars, they search online and if they can't find anything or spend hours trying to get something, they get frustrated. Having a decent amount of information available to your fans is a must and a great responsibilty for the artists, their record label or manager. If people can make high quality music videos and recordings with high end equipment, then they can also set up a website, a facebook page containing the important details, news and updates the fans want to read.

The NOF music page, is a place where Namibian musicians are featured. The reason for this is that some Namibians out there, might not even know what talents our country has.At the "Namibian Annual Music Awards", some artists were nominated, that no one actually knew - and people were asking the question :"Who is that?" Some of these artists won and got awards yet only a few people knew who they were.
So one of the aim of the NOF music team is to gather any relevant information on these Namibian musicians into ONE place for everyone to read up on, and in future have regular updates. This goes hand in hand with the actual aim of this entire forum - to screen interesting information about topics from Namibia. If we were to feature artists from everywhere, that would undue the purpose of this forum and be an indefinite task.
Music Forum:"...Topics in this category include info about Namibian artists and events, new releases, interviews, musical reviews, fresh news tips and event updates about the local and international music scene. Start a topic to promote your favourite artist or review and share the latest tracks..."
It's sad to see that not all musicians have information online - makes it pretty difficult yo track them down and to feature them up here. I have loads of names, but it's troublesome to put faces to these names, biographies, facebook profiles and videos. But hey, who said this was going to be an easy task ;) LOL I was actually hoping for most of the info to be screened on the N.A.M.A homepage - guess I was wrong !
The coding currently is the easy part - The challange will come in for new content ! At the moment, the page seems to take a while to open. I am planning on splitting the "musicians sections" over several subpages in ratio to the alphabetical numbers so that in the end, all loads faster and easier to access.
I still have 45 artist to look up or not - everyone will be listed that I can find online. If the information is available, so will be the section on this page.
