Johan - Yes on the cables.  Namibia's connection to the world needs to stop going through South Africa and needs to have good country integration through Swakop.  I'm VERY happy to see that WACS is set up for completion into Swakop/Henties NEXT MONTH!  (http://www.cablemap.info/)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WACS_(cable_system)

"The landings in Namibia, the DRC, the Republic of Congo and Togo will provide the first direct connections for these countries to the global submarine cable network."

This is fantastic.  I wonder which OC unit(s) they have at the connection to Namibia?

One Nam has stable power, the next thing it needs is nationwide storage - in the petabyte range.  Here is how we do it:

So, one of the guys who made Doom and Quake was American McGee.  He and I rented a house in San Francisco when he made Alice for Electronic Arts in 2000.  He's got a game development company now in Shanghai that he has been running for several years.  Here we are in 2008, trying to blow up Shanghai with fireworks.  Shanghai won.  We are considering a formal reply involving more fireworks.

Yes, he was simply insane at Quake.  I had no chance.

Here's his company in Shanghai: http://spicyhorse.com/home.html

If you are in to slow but reliable redundant HD backup, I have had luck with one of these with: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?client=safari&rls=en&...

Just fill it with 2 TB drives and use it as a backup.  DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER getting one of the DroboPro devices.  They fail.

Look at the images in my report below and weep.  16 TB shot to hell.

Hi Alex. Sorry I did not notice your friend request. accepted.

Jaques from the Unofficial Quake-Engine is a very good friend of mine. I used to make allot of quake maps. Lost most of my stuff in a HD crash. :(

I am very much interested in games and game engines. Am looking forward to have a look at the Doom 3 Source that came out today.  and I follow John Carmack on twitter :)
Hehe for sure about that Turbo Testarossa :D

Question for Johan since he hasn't accepted my friend request yet.

Are you on the Quake-Engine list or forum or does this interest you?  I know some of the guys behind Quake and one of them was my housemate.

If you're interested about gaming, 3D engines and game development, let me know.

Somewhere I even have photos of John Carmack's twin Turbo Testarossa with 1200 BHP. Perfect for a quick cross country drive to the farm don't you think?
